It worked, but not particularly well, nor was I very convinced in its sturdiness or longevity. The Kelty pole on the other hand is very nicely made of heavy duty aluminum, it actually looks like it might be anodized. The three sections are connected with a bungee to keep them together when folded and for ease of assembly, much like tent poles. I use two of these poles when camping with my truck - one end of my tarp attaches to the topper over the bed of the truck, the other end is held up with the two poles and then staked. They came fast and I could not wait to give them a try so I went straight out to the lawn to give them a go. The anodized aluminum looks great. The poles fit together well, with close tolerances and shock cords to keep thing easy. The Adjustability range is perfect for my Eureka! VCS Tarp/Shelter and the poles are sturdy enough to keep the shelter up in a stiff wind with no fear of collapse.Do not waste your $ on the 15$ poles at wallmart, mine folded the first time my son leaned on it. Total junk. He could do chin-ups on this pole and they would not budge. Also these poles fold up small so that they fit into the tarps bag. I'm a Hammock Camper (Hennessy Hammocks for years!) they are ultralight, convenient, comfortable, practical, etc., etc... but the one thing you can't get around is that you need at least 2 trees/posts/uprights of some kind to hang a hammock and tarp from... I camp in the desert and alpine areas a lot and although I can often find a rockfall, gully or just deadwood to hang one or both sides of the hammock from, I'm getting old enough that I want to know that I can set my camp up as comfortably as possible anywhere that I decide to stop for the night.
